DIPLOMA IN MORTUARY SCIENCE
DIPLOMA IN EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN COURSE
An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course teaches students how to
provide basic life support and emergency care to patients. Courses include
classroom lectures, hands-on practice, and clinical attachments.
What do you learn in an EMT course?
Basic life support: Students learn how to perform basic life support skills,
such as CPR
Critical thinking: Students learn how to think critically and use simulation
equipment to practice rescue scenarios
Hands-on practice: Students practice skills in a clinical setting, such as a
hospital or urgent care center
EMT curriculum is designed to assess a patient’s condition, and to perform such emergency
medical procedures as are needed to maintain a patent airway with adequate breathing and
cardiovascular circulation until the patient can be transferred to an appropriate destination for
advanced medical care.
Interventions include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, defibrillation, controlling severe external
bleeding, preventing shock, childbirth, body immobilization to prevent spinal damage, and
splinting of bone fractures.
